Articles · 5Parilem is an independent popular science publication. Here we set out who we are, what we stand for, and how a piece is checked before it goes live.
Independent · Faithful to the source · Clear
Parilem is an independent publication founded to report developments in mathematics, computer science, psychology, cognitive science and philosophy faithfully to their sources and in plain language. We try to close the distance between the academic paper and everyday curiosity.
Parilem was founded by three friends who met at Paris-Saclay. Today we are a team of working researchers, editors and volunteer writers, and every piece is written by someone who knows the subject.
Science journalism tends to fall into one of two traps: striking but misleading headlines, or text only a specialist can follow. Both blunt curiosity instead of feeding it.
We are trying a third way: saying what gets sacrificed when a result is simplified, showing uncertainty instead of hiding it, and taking the reader all the way to the source.
Three principles bind everything we publish. If a piece fails one of them, it does not go out.
Every claim rests on peer-reviewed work or a primary source, listed with its full reference at the end of the piece. Where a finding is contested we do not hide it — we also say how strong the evidence is.
Our content is not shaped by advertising, sponsorship or institutional ties. Where a conflict of interest is possible, we state it plainly at the top of the piece.
We define a term before we use it. Simplification is unavoidable, but it is never silent: we say what has been left out and where the full picture is.
We are just starting. Our aim is two in-depth pieces a month — in five languages, open all the way to the source, and free of advertising.
